I like giving presents to people at this stage in my life more than I can ever recall. I will give some gifts this Christmas that will bring joy for both the recipient and for me. It will be fun and I’m grateful that I can do that.
But, in my most honest moments, the best gifts in my life right now are not physical “presents.” I do very much enjoy them, but they aren’t the best. The best gift now is the gift of time and experiences with people — sharing our presence with those we love.
So, over these next few wonderful and fast-paced holiday weeks, I aim to not only share physical gifts with those around me but also share experiences and presence with those in my life.
I want to give people I love my focus, my eyes, my time. I want to truly BE with people.
So, here are some reminders or words of encouragement for the next few weeks that I will be thinking about and I invite you to do the same with the people in your life and work.
Stop and look people in the eyes.
Laugh during your holiday parties.
Share with people how you feel about them.
Say thank you for all the people and elements you have to be grateful for.
Reflect on the spirit of the season and your most sacred beliefs.
Watch and play with children.
Rest. Think. Be.
Good luck sharing your presence this holiday season. It may just be the best gift you give.
