We can’t control everything but what we can control is our response. Still a lot of work to do but wanted to remind the audience what is within our control is the temperature we create in the organizations and teams we work with. If you have a suggestion, please send it to info@jasonvbarger.com

“The culture is dynamic, it changes every single day.”

5:53 – Jason introduces today’s guest Gustavo Razzetti who is the author of the book Remote, Not Distant and Gustavo is CEO of Fearless Culture. Jason starts the podcast asking, “why is this talk about culture so important?”. Gustavo says that culture amplifies strategy and if you do something right you can take your company to the next level. There are many ways that the company culture manifests such as how your receptionist or customer service responds to you right from the beginning. There are three key elements that are part of the cultural system of a company.

The first is the emotions or how we feel about the company.

The second is the mindset. What is the filter that we use to see that reality? Are we optimistic about the company, are we neutral, or are we negative?

The third is behavior or how we act or actions that represent the company.

9:24 – Why were you compelled to write this book? asks Jason, “Why Not?” replied Gustavo while laughing. It was originally another book but then the pandemic happened and things changed this was really a result from that shared experience. So many of us now are remote working and this was a paradigm shift that Gustavo felt was important to cover. Gustavo’s hypothesis was that “when done right, hybrid (work environments) can be the best of both worlds”.

“When done right, hybrid (work environments) can be the best of both worlds”.

12:50 – What were some of the biggest issues you found with companies and remote work? Gustavo responds, “It’s trust”. Some of the big issues revolved around people having to trust people without actually being there together physically. So many companies want to still convince themselves that the office is needed after spending so much money on new office spaces like the new Apple HQ for example. The truth is that the bulk of collaboration can be done remotely and office space is not needed it is only wanted.

16:20 – If people have control of their own time they will provide a better outcome. Trust of employees is most important.

19:45 – Gustavo gives some highlights from the book Remote, Not Distant.

ABOUT THE THERMOSTAT

Conversations and micro-thoughts to engage your mind and heart.

A thermostat is proactive. It sets the temperature in a room. Controls the temperature. Regulates the temperature. But in today’s distracted, fast-paced and digital world, it’s easy for individuals and organizations to act more like thermometers, slipping into reactionary thinking, becoming scattered and inconsistent. The most compelling leaders, teams, organizations, families, or collection of humans of any kind operate in thermostat mode. They calibrate their mind and heart to set the temperature for the vision and culture they want to create. Jason Barger, globally celebrated author, keynote speaker, and founder of Step Back Leadership Consulting, is the host of The Thermostat, a podcast journey to discover authentic leadership, create compelling cultures and find clarity of mission, vision, and values.
