“Do you align the proper tasks and efforts with your best energy levels? “

3:50 – Jason introduces today’s topic about personal biorhythms and starts with an intro reminder to listen to our last episode about the power of rest, listen here if you have not. Many people don’t know about personal biorhythms so Jason cuts to the quick version. This theory suggests we all have different physical, emotional, and intellectual cycles that move in and out of each month. Jason tells about his natural biorhythms such as him being an early riser when he finds the most creative times for himself.

We all have unique biorhythms.

9:12 – Jason talks about personal biorhythms and awareness of himself. Not everyone has the same biorhythms as other people. Jason shares a personal story about the energy levels of his wife, Amy, and the differences to illustrate the different biorhythms people have.

11:30 – A big portion of this discussion cannot continue without mentioning emotional intelligence which we have done a whole podcast series about. Listen to the series about emotional intelligence here. Emotional intelligence is our awareness of ourselves, our awareness of others, and the ability to use that awareness in order to calibrate our thermostat and proactively respond to meet the needs of people around us. Better awareness of ourselves and others allows us to be more thoughtful about how we plan, execute, and implement our daily, monthly, and yearly strategies. Jason has learned to use his biorhythms to his advantage and to maximize those morning hours when he is most creative and alert.

16:44 – Jason talks about strategies to be at his best during the day to optimize his biorhythms and how you can too! One example is to take a walk, go for a workout, or take a quick power nap. The idea is to step back and get away from the task to refresh your mind, be at your best past your lull, and get into your second wind of the day. Blocking time strategically makes a gigantic, huge difference in Jason’s life as well as improved his overall happiness and can help you too.

19:05 – The importance of empathy is very important when dealing with others. You can use your knowledge of your biorhythms and others’ biorhythms to optimize work for all your team players to align the time with the right energy levels that you need. What is the best time to perform the most important task with the right people at the right time?

Questions to Ponder

  1. What is your unique biorhythm?
  2. What is the unique biorhythm of those around you?
  3. Are you aligning the right tasks, engagements, and priorities at the right times in order to align with your own personal biorhythm?

“The most creative thinkers allow time and space to think and let things incubate.”

ABOUT THE THERMOSTAT

Conversations and micro-thoughts to engage your mind and heart.

A thermostat is proactive. It sets the temperature in a room. Controls the temperature. Regulates the temperature. But in today’s distracted, fast-paced and digital world, it’s easy for individuals and organizations to act more like thermometers, slipping into reactionary thinking, becoming scattered and inconsistent. The most compelling leaders, teams, organizations, families, or collection of humans of any kind operate in thermostat mode. They calibrate their mind and heart to set the temperature for the vision and culture they want to create. Jason Barger, globally celebrated author, keynote speaker, and founder of Step Back Leadership Consulting, is the host of The Thermostat, a podcast journey to discover authentic leadership, create compelling cultures and find clarity of mission, vision, and values.
