We can’t control everything but what we can control is our response. Still a lot of work to do but wanted to remind the audience what is within our control is the temperature we create in the organizations and teams we work with. If you have a suggestion, please send it to info@jasonvbarger.com

“Believing you can make a difference is a powerful current that carries through everything you do.

4:00 – Jason shares his awareness of how important belief is in his everyday life. He recommends the Gallop strengths finder where Jason’s biggest strength was Belief. It means that he needs to believe in what he is doing and if he doesn’t then long term it will most likely result in a lack of focus for Jason for example. He recommends others to take assessments as well like Gallop Strength’s Finder or the High 5 Test.

6:40 – There is an energy that is fueled by understanding one’s strengths and for Jason especially and many others, Belief is Powerful.

8:50 – Belief brings confidence, faith, and trust to anything that we are doing with belief. Jason shares a story of Zingerman’s deli they have a massive following and a wonderful culture at the deli from Ann Arbor Michigan. Zingerman’s mission says, People there act like they care and care enough to act. We believe small actions make a big difference. A diverse group makes better decisions. Each person is a creative, unique individual who can do great things in life.

11:30 – The best leaders, teams, and organizations cultivate belief in all that they do. Jason shares this with many of the teams he works with:

  1. Do they have clarity around mission, vision, and values?
  2. What is the proactive culture they want to create?
  3. How do they engage the minds and hearts of people to proactively shape the culture into what they want?

13:00 – Jason shares the four keys to belief in work culture.

  1. Believe in the mission. At the center of it all is why they exist.
  2. Believe in people around them, and show confidence in others around them.
  3. Believe people with them on the journey make them all better. We are better together
  4. Believe in the contribution they can make individually. They can contribute to the mission, to their teammates, and make a difference in small ways by caring enough to act.

16:10 – Am I clear about what my mission is? Do I count on the people around me and do I believe in the mission and in my teammates?

Questions to Ponder

  1. What does your culture believe in? How would you articulate it?

  2. How do you cultivate greater belief? Confidence & trust in your teammates?

  3. What contributions, big or small, do you know that you can contribute to that culture?

ABOUT THE THERMOSTAT

Conversations and micro-thoughts to engage your mind and heart.

A thermostat is proactive. It sets the temperature in a room. Controls the temperature. Regulates the temperature. But in today’s distracted, fast-paced and digital world, it’s easy for individuals and organizations to act more like thermometers, slipping into reactionary thinking, becoming scattered and inconsistent. The most compelling leaders, teams, organizations, families, or collection of humans of any kind operate in thermostat mode. They calibrate their mind and heart to set the temperature for the vision and culture they want to create. Jason Barger, globally celebrated author, keynote speaker, and founder of Step Back Leadership Consulting, is the host of The Thermostat, a podcast journey to discover authentic leadership, create compelling cultures and find clarity of mission, vision, and values.
