We can’t control everything but what we can control is our response. Still a lot of work to do but wanted to remind the audience what is within our control is the temperature we create in the organizations and teams we work with. If you have a suggestion, please send it to info@jasonvbarger.com

“When we talk about our feelings they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary” – Mr. Rogers

3:00 – Jason introduces today’s topic. Check out Jason’s past episodes about emotional intelligence to better understand the foundational principles Jason talks about today. Jason defines emotional intelligence which is your ability to recognize yourself, your own emotions and feelings and what you perceive about the feelings of others. Then it is about your ability to use that awareness to manage your relationships.

11:30 – Am I going to breathe oxygen into the flames or am I going to breathe oxygen into the person? Jason explains this important message in the podcast.

18:10 – Jason shares how great leaders realize they need to be in the business of modeling and showing people how we communicate. When we have some that is mentionable then we can manage it, we have to be courageous to mention what we are feeling and also create space for others to share what they need to. Then we can move forward and create a plan on how to address and handle a solution.

Questions to Ponder

  1. What is weighing on you or those around you that might need to be mentioned?

  2. When will you create space to help mention the challenges we are facing as a team that can lead into how we might commit to managing the road ahead?

  3. What strategies do you need to deploy next to mention and manage what you are facing?

ABOUT THE THERMOSTAT

Conversations and micro-thoughts to engage your mind and heart.

A thermostat is proactive. It sets the temperature in a room. Controls the temperature. Regulates the temperature. But in today’s distracted, fast-paced and digital world, it’s easy for individuals and organizations to act more like thermometers, slipping into reactionary thinking, becoming scattered and inconsistent. The most compelling leaders, teams, organizations, families, or collection of humans of any kind operate in thermostat mode. They calibrate their mind and heart to set the temperature for the vision and culture they want to create. Jason Barger, globally celebrated author, keynote speaker, and founder of Step Back Leadership Consulting, is the host of The Thermostat, a podcast journey to discover authentic leadership, create compelling cultures and find clarity of mission, vision, and values.
