SHOW NOTES

Jason introduces Season 6 episode 45 of the podcast, Thankfulness Is Oxygen. Welcome back to the podcast on corporate culture and leadership and thank you for listening. We engage thought leaders like CEOs, CFOs, managers, VPs, directors, and more for this podcast. We wish to create content that engages your mind and heart and allows you to step back and think and add some positivity to your life. We deep dive into today’s topic.

We can’t control everything but what we can control is our response. Still a lot of work to do but wanted to remind the audience what is within our control is the temperature we create in the organizations and teams we work with. If you have a suggestion, please send it to info@jasonvbarger.com

“Thankfulness is oxygen, sharing gratitude shifts the lens through which we see what is in front of us.”

5:00 – Thanksgiving is almost here, Jason shares some stories of black Friday and introduces today’s topic. The race through the holidays is almost here so Jason wishes everyone not to run but to step back from the baggage claim and pickup Breathing Oxygen now. He also thanks everyone involved and who came or was online for Thermostat Cultures Live 2022. Today Jason wants to experience the oxygen that is thankfulness. Jason wants to help us breathe easier, help us think about the mindsets we are feeding, and move forward together.

7:30 – Thankfulness is oxygen, sharing gratitude shifts the lens through which we see what is in front of us. What is around us? What are we truly facing? It shifts our eyes around what is imperfect around us and the lens gets clearer when we fixate on gratefulness and what we are fortunate to experience in our lives and our work.

8:20 – Jason shares how he cultivates the mindset of thankfulness and gratefulness during this special conversation in this podcast. Jason follows this few minutes of practice every day to start his day (he really tries to do it each day). The secret is, Jason talks about his wife and how thankful he is for her, he talks about his children and how thankful he is for them, he thinks about his parents and how thankful he was for what they did and the love they showed toward him and the experiences he had with them prior to their passing. Jason then goes into his extended family and grandparents and aunts and uncles and all the support system that he had that helped him in his life. He talks about gratitude for his in-laws and so many people from cousins and nieces and nephews and his friends and friendships he has now. Jason names his gratitude that he gets to do this work in the world and to share his passion all over with teams and organizations.

16:33 – We want to thank the audience and person out there right now who is reading this. We thank you. Sometime over Thanksgiving, Jason encourages you to write out and then say out loud all that spills out of your mind and your heart.

18:20 – Our performance gets better when we help others and when we breathe in good oxygen for our business. Healthy cultures and positive cultures arent just something that naturally happen. We have to be intentional on that culture that we want to create.

Questions to Ponder

  1. What is your list of things you are thankful for in your life and work?

  2. What can you say out loud and share with others?

Thankfulness is Oxygen

ABOUT THE THERMOSTAT

Conversations and micro-thoughts to engage your mind and heart.

A thermostat is proactive. It sets the temperature in a room. Controls the temperature. Regulates the temperature. But in today’s distracted, fast-paced and digital world, it’s easy for individuals and organizations to act more like thermometers, slipping into reactionary thinking, becoming scattered and inconsistent. The most compelling leaders, teams, organizations, families, or collection of humans of any kind operate in thermostat mode. They calibrate their mind and heart to set the temperature for the vision and culture they want to create. Jason Barger, globally celebrated author, keynote speaker, and founder of Step Back Leadership Consulting, is the host of The Thermostat, a podcast journey to discover authentic leadership, create compelling cultures and find clarity of mission, vision, and values.
