Jason introduces Season 6 episode 50 of the podcast, Genuine Appreciation. Welcome back to the podcast on corporate culture and leadership and thank you for listening. We engage thought leaders like CEOs, CFOs, managers, VPs, directors, and more for this podcast. We wish to create content that engages your mind and heart and allows you to step back and think and add some positivity to your life. We deep dive into today’s topic.

We can’t control everything but what we can control is our response. Still a lot of work to do but wanted to remind the audience what is within our control is the temperature we create in the organizations and teams we work with. If you have a suggestion, please send it to info@jasonvbarger.com

“In this micro-pod, we ask for everyone to step back and take time for some genuine appreciation”

5:40 – Thanks to everyone who gifts the book, Breathing Oxygen,. Jason has gotten some great messages from people about the book and how they are gifting and sharing it with others. Jason also mentions the Thermostat Cultures live event that took place in November of this year. There will be some more content from that event coming in season 7!

6:35 – Jason introduces today’s topic, Genuine appreciation. We hope that you will take time to step back and remember who it is you want to appreciate and what the holidays really mean to each other. The busy holiday season leads to parties and end-of-year celebrations and possibly nice gifts to everyone in our live for who we appreciate many even year-end bonuses. Moments we raise glasses to cheer the successes and journey over the past year.

8:00 – In our rush to finish the year, we often slip into auto pilot mode and miss the opportunities to share genuine appreciation. Gifts can seem more like obligations rather than genuine appreciate that is the point or the heart of what it is.

9:00 – This is a reminder to not just finish on auto-pilot but to really show genuine appreciation to the people around you. Leaders who understand this and are good at their own emotional awareness have the ability to be aware of that and trigger themselves to get out of auto-pilot mode to share genuine appreciation with others around them.

10:50 – Work should be more than simply transactional. Jason shares his insights on what work should be and what outstanding cultures do to go beyond just the transactional work approach.

Questions to Ponder

  1. Who and what do you have genuine appreciation for this year?

  2. What is the spirit or the message, the gift that would help those people feel the genuine appreciation?

ABOUT THE THERMOSTAT

Conversations and micro-thoughts to engage your mind and heart.

A thermostat is proactive. It sets the temperature in a room. Controls the temperature. Regulates the temperature. But in today’s distracted, fast-paced and digital world, it’s easy for individuals and organizations to act more like thermometers, slipping into reactionary thinking, becoming scattered and inconsistent. The most compelling leaders, teams, organizations, families, or collection of humans of any kind operate in thermostat mode. They calibrate their mind and heart to set the temperature for the vision and culture they want to create. Jason Barger, globally celebrated author, keynote speaker, and founder of Step Back Leadership Consulting, is the host of The Thermostat, a podcast journey to discover authentic leadership, create compelling cultures and find clarity of mission, vision, and values.
