We engage thought leaders like CEOs, CFOs, managers, VPs, directors, and more for this podcast. We wish to create content that engages your mind and heart and allows you to step back and think and add some positivity to your life. We deep dive into today’s topic.

We can’t control everything but what we can control is our response. Still a lot of work to do but wanted to remind the audience what is within our control is the temperature we create in the organizations and teams we work with. If you have a suggestion, please send it to info@jasonvbarger.com

“To make your resolutions last, let my being drive my doing rather than my doing drive my being.

Focus less on the DO and more on the BE

6:20 – We are starting a new year! Everyone knows we all have the same experience with resolutions or goals ahead. Often the focus is what we are going to do, from eating less junk food, to going to the gym more, to making more sales, it is all about what we will DO. The research however shows that the gyms are often barren by Feb 5th. It is common for people to stop their goals within a few weeks. Studies show that 70-80% of New Year’s Resolutions have been quit in 3-4 weeks. Jason says to focus less on the DO and more on the BE.

10:50 – Jason talks about compelling behaviors to change your mindset and engage in new habits that last. This is life-changing behavior that starts with a new mindset. The focus is in the wrong place. Shallow thinking of doing is misplaced. Successful humans on this planet focus on the mindset and the BE or Being. Who they are compelled to BE drives their doing.

12:29 – When someone has a deeper-rooted conviction for being, the doing is more defined and lasts much longer, and works better for them and their goals. Jason reflects on his New Year’s resolutions and thinking for the new year. His focus is on being healthier and that means more focus to his health this year, his sleep patterns, stretching, and cardio in workouts to step back and think about what health looks like to him.

15:40 – Jason shares examples of resolutions and the importance of connection and what that means to him. Gratitude is also shared along with his strategies to practice giving thanks to others. The last thought is being courageous and what that means to Jason this new year.

Wish you all a wonderful new year!

Questions to Ponder

  1. Who do you want to be in the year ahead?

  2. What will you do in order to BE that which you feel you want?

  3. What are some mile-markers along the year to anchor the habits to be more real and make that happen?

Jason shares at the end of the episode how to help as part of the book launch team. The best way is to read and share the new book below. It makes a great gift for your team. If you have unique ideas to help share the book contact info@jasonvbarger.com

ABOUT THE THERMOSTAT

Conversations and micro-thoughts to engage your mind and heart.

A thermostat is proactive. It sets the temperature in a room. Controls the temperature. Regulates the temperature. But in today’s distracted, fast-paced and digital world, it’s easy for individuals and organizations to act more like thermometers, slipping into reactionary thinking, becoming scattered and inconsistent. The most compelling leaders, teams, organizations, families, or collection of humans of any kind operate in thermostat mode. They calibrate their mind and heart to set the temperature for the vision and culture they want to create. Jason Barger, globally celebrated author, keynote speaker, and founder of Step Back Leadership Consulting, is the host of The Thermostat, a podcast journey to discover authentic leadership, create compelling cultures and find clarity of mission, vision, and values.
