We engage thought leaders like CEOs, CFOs, managers, VPs, directors, and more for this podcast. We wish to create content that engages your mind and heart and allows you to step back and think and add some positivity to your life. We deep dive into today’s topic.

We can’t control everything but what we can control is our response. Still a lot of work to do but wanted to remind the audience what is within our control is the temperature we create in the organizations and teams we work with. If you have a suggestion, please send it to info@jasonvbarger.com

“Believing you can make a difference is a powerful current that carries through everything you do.

3:30 – Jason shares today’s topic about workplace well-being and the critical need and opportunity to create workplaces that bring out the best in people. The results typically follow.

5:25 – Your workplace is on the hook for well-being. This is part of a multi-part series coming up about workplace culture and well-being. Today is all about your workplace and culture. Fast Company says the workplace is on the hook for well-being. Jason talks about a recent podcast involving organizational empathy. Our places of work need to expand the vision for how we care about our people.

7:20 – We spend so much time at work that these are truly the places that help us learn how to work and grow and also be healthy in many ways mentally so your culture is a reflection of that to your employees. We interact with people who are different than us. Choose to think creatively and thrive in our places of work. This can magnify and amplify every part of our lifes if we choose to think of it that way. The surgeon general identified that terrible work cultures are on the radar for people’s physical and mental health. This has been identified as a health concern.

9:00 – What are the toxic behaviors or structures that we allow to linger that are counter to the culture we actually want? Jason has worked with many leaders stepping back to reflect on how they engage with their people. How do they interact with coaching, events, seminars, etc.

10:20 – Many people think this is overwhelming and find this difficult to add to their agenda items. We know that for employees that are more highly engaged, all metrics go up for them (retention, engagement, etc). Taking care of our people will also lead to higher performance.

  1. What elements are the highest on your list? – Is it the physical environment? Workload? Teammate relations and culture?
  2. Create a sense of belonging. – People want to be seen and a part of something.
  3. Talk and act. – Talk about well-being but don’t just talk about it.

14:10 – Show your people that these are living breathing examples of people that model and practice this themselves. If you didn’t think developing leaders and cultures was important before 2020 you now do or you should.

ABOUT THE THERMOSTAT

Conversations and micro-thoughts to engage your mind and heart.

A thermostat is proactive. It sets the temperature in a room. Controls the temperature. Regulates the temperature. But in today’s distracted, fast-paced and digital world, it’s easy for individuals and organizations to act more like thermometers, slipping into reactionary thinking, becoming scattered and inconsistent. The most compelling leaders, teams, organizations, families, or collection of humans of any kind operate in thermostat mode. They calibrate their mind and heart to set the temperature for the vision and culture they want to create. Jason Barger, globally celebrated author, keynote speaker, and founder of Step Back Leadership Consulting, is the host of The Thermostat, a podcast journey to discover authentic leadership, create compelling cultures and find clarity of mission, vision, and values.
