Jason introduces Season 6 episode 47 of the podcast, Worthy Competitors. Welcome back to the podcast on corporate culture and leadership and thank you for listening. We engage thought leaders like CEOs, CFOs, managers, VPs, directors, and more for this podcast. We wish to create content that engages your mind and heart and allows you to step back and think and add some positivity to your life. We deep dive into today’s topic.

We can’t control everything but what we can control is our response. Still a lot of work to do but wanted to remind the audience what is within our control is the temperature we create in the organizations and teams we work with. If you have a suggestion, please send it to info@jasonvbarger.com

“Who is your greatest competitor?”

1:48 – Jason encourages everyone to look at the past great episodes that we have over 150 great podcasts and micro-pods filled with great insights on leadership and helping teams and organizational culture thrive.

5:55Breathing Oxygen, Jason’s new book from Amplify Publishing, has resonated with so many people and he continues to hear great works and thoughts and reviews about the book.

6:30 – Jason shares his stories about the TCL event this year and notes the recap episode which you can listen to here. We are targeting Friday, November 3rd, 2023 for next year’s event in Columbus Ohio.

7:10 – I admit, this episode was recorded before the OSU/Michigan game. This is called the greatest rivalry in sports.

7:05 – Today we are talking about the concept of worthy competitors is one of note given the recent game of the football pantheon of greatness which is OSU vs Michigan football. Considered the greatest rivalry in sports because each team has a history of ending the others’ dreams of going to the Big 10 championship, the same was true for this year. Both teams bring out the best in each other and both prepare and grow for this game.

10:50 – Worthy competitors in business are something that Jason actually spends zero time thinking about them in that way. Many may differ and see clear competitors that you compete with every day. For Jason, his biggest competitor is me or Jason. He competes with himself to continue to grow, develop, and learn greater skills in his craft. Working on the craft is what helps him look at this question, who is your greatest competitor?

13:41 – Jason learns from others and his goal is not to be them but to be the most authentic version of himself. The goal is not to be them or to beat them, it’s to become the best me and to play Jason’s game. Remember what game you want to be playing and how you can be committed to raising your own bar.

Your best worthy competitor is within you, it’s within all of us.

Questions to Ponder

  1. Do you have a worthy competitor? If so who is it?

  2. What drives you from within? Are you learning about your opportunity to grow on the road ahead?

  3. How do you want to compete to play your game?

Jason shares at the end of the episode how to help as part of the book launch team. The best way is to read and share the new book below. It makes a great gift for your team. If you have unique ideas to help share the book contact info@jasonvbarger.com

ABOUT THE THERMOSTAT

Conversations and micro-thoughts to engage your mind and heart.

A thermostat is proactive. It sets the temperature in a room. Controls the temperature. Regulates the temperature. But in today’s distracted, fast-paced and digital world, it’s easy for individuals and organizations to act more like thermometers, slipping into reactionary thinking, becoming scattered and inconsistent. The most compelling leaders, teams, organizations, families, or collection of humans of any kind operate in thermostat mode. They calibrate their mind and heart to set the temperature for the vision and culture they want to create. Jason Barger, globally celebrated author, keynote speaker, and founder of Step Back Leadership Consulting, is the host of The Thermostat, a podcast journey to discover authentic leadership, create compelling cultures and find clarity of mission, vision, and values.
