SHOW NOTES
Jason introduces Season 7 episode 3 of the podcast, Defining “Winning Cultures”. Welcome back to the podcast on corporate culture and leadership and thank you for listening. We engage thought leaders like CEOs, CFOs, managers, VPs, directors, and more for this podcast. We wish to create content that engages your mind and heart and allows you to step back and think and add some positivity to your life. We deep dive into today’s topic.
We can’t control everything but what we can control is our response. Still a lot of work to do but wanted to remind the audience what is within our control is the temperature we create in the organizations and teams we work with. If you have a suggestion, please send it to info@jasonvbarger.com

“It is important that we define the terminology of “Winning Cultures”. The idea of shaping culture has never been more important than it is now.“
6:00 – Jason talks about the last episode, “Have you set your GPS for the year ahead?” Then Jason challenged us not to rush into the New Year and why resolutions fall out of place soon after making them in the episode listen here.
7:20 – It is important that we define the terminology of “Winning Cultures“. The idea of shaping culture has never been more important than it is now. Leaders need a strategy and intentionality, a commitment to shaping and developing leaders and culture in their organization. If you don’t, then people will go somewhere else.
8:40 – Jason begins to define what Winning Cultures is. It stems from his new book, Breathing Oxygen: How Positive Leadership Gives Life to Winning Cultures. It’s not about, “hey everybody stay positive” with a fake smile. It is about defining what winning cultures really means. It’s not just about the scoreboard. The score matters, we have goals and targets we need to hit yes but we need to really define success. What does success mean to you?
11:00 – Some great examples of success and how to truly measure it are given in the podcast. Winning cultures is so much more than just an output. The main question to Winning is what is authentic to YOU and YOUR people? What are you genuinely trying to create? What’s the ecosystem for how you pursue your mission? Does your team even have clarity on this pursuit?
13:00 – Jason explains what a winning culture really is here in the podcast.
Questions to Ponder
-
How would you define success for you for your culture or for your pursuits? What does that look like?
-
How would you articulate your ecosystem for how you want to work together?
-
How would you articulate how you want to be that winning culture?

ABOUT THE THERMOSTAT
Conversations and micro-thoughts to engage your mind and heart.
A thermostat is proactive. It sets the temperature in a room. Controls the temperature. Regulates the temperature. But in today’s distracted, fast-paced and digital world, it’s easy for individuals and organizations to act more like thermometers, slipping into reactionary thinking, becoming scattered and inconsistent. The most compelling leaders, teams, organizations, families, or collection of humans of any kind operate in thermostat mode. They calibrate their mind and heart to set the temperature for the vision and culture they want to create. Jason Barger, globally celebrated author, keynote speaker, and founder of Step Back Leadership Consulting, is the host of The Thermostat, a podcast journey to discover authentic leadership, create compelling cultures and find clarity of mission, vision, and values.
